About the Margarita
If there’s one cocktail that needs no introduction, it’s the margarita. The tequila-based tipple has been synonymous with good times since, well, forever, and is thought to have been invented in Tijuana in the late 1940s. Various versions of the margarita have popped up over the years, including the infamous ‘frozen margy’, but there’s no beating a classic – just be sure to use quality tequila.
S-liquor Top Tip
Of all the variations of the margarita, the jalapeno margarita shines the brightest. The key is to add a couple of slices of fresh jalapeño and muddle them in the cocktail shaker – seeds removed – before adding the rest of the ingredients. The more slices of jalapeño, the spicier the margarita will be, so play around to discover your perfect mix.
If you don’t like spice, there are plenty of fruitier takes on the margarita too. Why not try your hand at a strawberry or passionfruit margarita? Or up the agave flavour with a Tommy’s margarita instead. And if you’re feeling a little lazy? Then there’s no shame in sticking with a pre-made margarita – it still counts as a fiesta.
